01Who it's for

Our men's health program is open to most adult men in Ontario. Specific TRT eligibility requires biochemical confirmation.

  • Have symptoms of low testosterone (fatigue, libido, mood, body comp)
  • Are dealing with erectile dysfunction
  • Have metabolic syndrome or weight concerns
  • Want a comprehensive 40+ wellness check
  • Need cardiovascular risk assessment
  • Are an Ontario resident with a valid health card

02How the program works

Day 0 · Online intake

Confidential Intake

Complete a private intake form. Most men appreciate that they can describe symptoms in writing rather than face-to-face. Our team reviews within one business day.

Week 1 · In-store

Required Lab Work

For TRT: morning testosterone (×2 readings), LH/FSH, estradiol, PSA, CBC, lipids, hematocrit. For ED: as clinically indicated. We provide lab requisitions; LifeLabs/Dynacare are typically convenient.

Week 2 · Virtual

Physician Consultation

A virtual consult to review labs, discuss symptoms in depth, and decide together whether therapy is appropriate.

Weeks 3+ · Hybrid

Prescription & Setup

If indicated, prescriptions are sent to your pharmacy. For TRT: injection technique can be reviewed by video. We prescribe everything needed including syringes and disposal.

Wrap-up

Ongoing Monitoring

TRT requires regular monitoring (3 months, 6 months, then annually). Hematocrit, PSA, testosterone levels — all reviewed virtually with your physician.

04Coverage & what's billed

OHIP-covered
Physician visits· no cost to you
All physician consultations are billed directly to OHIP under your provincial health card. You will never receive an invoice for a covered consultation.
Valid health card required at intake

What's covered: physician consultations, requisitioned lab work, in-store vitals review, prescription refills written by your DOS physician, and follow-up visits during the program.

What may be patient-pay: certain weight-loss or specialty medications (depending on private insurance), supplements, and any out-of-program services you elect. Your DOS physician will discuss any patient-pay item with you before prescribing — nothing is added to your file without consent.

05Your Food Basics pharmacist

Each Food Basics location partnered with DOS has at least one pharmacist briefed on the program. They have access to your DOS chart (with your consent) and can answer questions about side effects, interactions, and adjustments without you needing to wait for a physician appointment.

06Eligibility & safety

Our men's health program is open to most adult men in Ontario. Specific TRT eligibility requires biochemical confirmation.

This program may not be right for you if you:

  • Have current or recent prostate cancer
  • Have very high red blood cell count (untreated polycythemia)
  • Are trying to conceive (TRT suppresses fertility)
  • Have severe untreated sleep apnea
  • Need urgent in-person urology evaluation

07Common questions

Do I need a referral for TRT?
No. You can book directly with our program. After lab confirmation of low testosterone (with appropriate symptoms), our physicians can prescribe TRT under the same standards used in any specialist clinic.
How is this different from a "TRT clinic"?
We are licensed Ontario physicians treating low testosterone as a medical condition, not a wellness lifestyle product. We require proper biochemical confirmation, monitor ongoing safety (PSA, hematocrit, estradiol), and reverse course if therapy is not benefiting you. Most "wellness clinics" do not.
Will my employer or family see anything in my OHIP record?
Your OHIP record is confidential. Visits with our physicians are billable to OHIP and appear in your individual record — but family members and employers do not have access to it.
Is TRT covered by OHIP?
OHIP covers physician consultations. The medication itself is typically covered by employer benefits or private insurance. Out-of-pocket cost varies — your physician will discuss specifics.
