01Who it's for

Our endocrinology program is open to:

  • Have a known thyroid condition needing optimisation
  • Have suspicious labs (abnormal TSH, hormones, glucose)
  • Have suspected hormonal causes of weight gain, fatigue, or mood changes
  • Have a thyroid nodule needing evaluation
  • Have a known endocrine condition needing follow-up
  • Are an Ontario resident with a valid health card

02How the program works

Day 0 · Online intake

Initial Intake & Records Review

Send recent labs (TSH, T4, T3, hormones as relevant), imaging if available, and a list of current medications. Our team reviews within one business day.

Week 1 · Virtual visit

Lab Work if Needed

Updated thyroid panel, hormone levels, and metabolic labs may be ordered to inform your treatment plan — at no cost via OHIP.

Week 2 · Follow-up

Specialist Consultation

A virtual consult with your DOS specialist to review labs, discuss symptoms, and design a treatment plan.

Weeks 3+ · Ongoing care

Prescription & Plan Start

If indicated, prescriptions are sent to your pharmacy. Imaging or biopsy referrals coordinated as needed.

Wrap-up

Ongoing Adjustment

Most endocrine conditions need fine-tuning — TSH-guided thyroid adjustments, dose titration, periodic re-imaging. Regular virtual check-ins.

04Coverage & what's billed

OHIP-covered
Physician visits· for eligible Ontario residents
Physician consultations are covered by OHIP for eligible Ontario residents under your provincial health card. We are always upfront about any cost before you proceed.
Valid health card required at intake

What's covered: physician consultations, requisitioned lab work, prescriptions written by your DOS physician, and follow-up visits during the program.

What may be patient-pay: certain medications (depending on private insurance), devices, supplements, and any out-of-program services you elect. Your DOS physician will discuss any patient-pay item with you before prescribing — nothing is added to your file without consent.

05Your pharmacy

Your preferred Food Basics pharmacy can assist with prescription fulfillment, medication availability, general pharmacy-related questions and product inventory inquiries. Clinical assessments, diagnoses, prescribing decisions and treatment plan modifications remain the responsibility of your physician.

This program may not be right for you if you:

  • Have an acute endocrine emergency (DKA, thyroid storm — call 911)
  • Need urgent in-person surgical evaluation (thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy)
  • Have suspected adrenal crisis (urgent in-person care)

07Common questions

Do I need a referral to see a specialist?
For OHIP coverage, yes — most specialist visits in Ontario require a referral from a family physician or another specialist. Our team will help you obtain one if needed.
My TSH is in the "normal" range but I still feel awful — can you help?
Yes. The reference range for TSH is wide, and individual patients often feel their best at a specific point within (or just outside) that range. Our specialists treat the patient, not just the lab number — we will dig into the full picture.
I have a thyroid nodule — can virtual care manage that?
Yes. Most thyroid nodule management is virtual — review of ultrasound, decision on whether to biopsy, monitoring of growth. If a biopsy is needed, we coordinate with a local imaging centre near you.
Is GLP-1 therapy through this program for diabetics only?
No. GLP-1 medications (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro) are increasingly used for obesity, PCOS, and metabolic syndrome — not just diabetes. Your specialist will discuss whether you are a candidate.
